Your Initial Visit With Dr. Rakita
We at Rakita Family Dentistry believe that your initial visit is of great importance, as this provides us with an opportunity to get to know you and develop a trusting relationship that will be the basis for future services provided.
It is our desire to provide you with gentle dental care that enhances the quality of your life.
Upon your entrance, you will be greeted with welcoming and warm smiles by our staff. They will direct you to have a seat in our waiting room, where you will be given medical history and new patient charts to fill out.
We advise our new patients to arrive 15 minutes early to give themselves time to fill out the forms. We respect your privacy and confidentiality of your medical history.
If you’d like us to file insurance claims on your behalf, you’ll have the chance to provide our receptionist with your insurance information at this time.
We will help you submit forms to your insurance company for reimbursement. Please note, however, that payment for treatments is still due on the day of your appointment.
Once you have completed all the required paperwork, a dental assistant will gather your medical and dental information so that our resident dentist Dr. Rakita may perform a complete new patient dental examination.

What Should I Expect From My Dental Examination?
Your dental examination will require us gathering information from you in the form of a visual and radiographic assessment of your teeth and jaws.
This will help us learn what your expectations are to preserve your dental health. You should expect your initial visit to take approximately 1-1½ hours.
Our primary objective is to provide you with information that will allow us to choose the most appropriate treatment options for you if required.
After your first appointment, our dentist will discuss suggested treatment options if there are any problems. Otherwise, we will recommend your next scheduled cleaning and check-up.
Here is what you can expect from our dental examinations:
Tooth & Gum Examination
Dr. Rakita will inspect your teeth from every possible angle to detect cavities, tooth enamel that may be worn in certain areas, and fillings that may need replaced. He will also inspect your gums to see if you show any signs of developing periodontal gum disease.Head & Neck Examination
We will inspect your head, neck and skull to determine if you have a TMJ disorder or any other occlusal (bite) problems.Oral Cancer Screening
Because it’s better to detect cancer sooner rather than later to help prevent it, we will carefully inspect your mouth, lips, gums, cheeks, and throat for any irregularities. We perform a mandatory oral cancer screening on every new patient.Cleaning & Treatment
The typical new patient dental examination and cleaning takes about 90 minutes, although some patients may require additional time depending upon their needs, preferences and customized treatment plans. We will clean your teeth and gums, along with any minor dental treatments you may need such as cavity fillings.
